The Radio Workshop is a podcasting company that develops high-quality audio content with creators from across Africa. Through production, training, and collaboration, our goal is to spark the growth of top-notch podcasts across Africa.

Headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa and with team members across the globe, our roots run deep in radio on the African continent. The Radio Workshop is a social enterprise formed by the Children’s Radio Foundation, a non-profit organization that trains youth as radio reporters in five countries across Africa. The profits from the Radio Workshop help fund the work of the Children’s Radio Foundation.

We love radio and believe it can play a big role in advancing podcasting and audio storytelling across Africa. Our podcasts reach listeners through the usual distribution platforms but also are broadcast on African radio stations. It’s a win-win: enriching the content of radio stations and switching on listeners to podcasts.

Podcasting, African style

We need more stories about Africa that don’t make us cringe. We believe podcasting can do a lot to shift narratives on Africa for global and local audiences alike.

Our flagship podcast THIS is Africa is about people who happen to live in Africa. Intimate, beautiful, and complex stories about daily realities and winding journeys, grounded in the place we call home, that speak to the bigger issues that define our lives.

We want to hear about your ideas, your projects, and your dreams for podcasting in your country. Let’s see if we can work together. We work in English, Swahili, and French, among other languages.

Training for African journalists and storytellers

Part of our work specializes in training African journalists who have little to no audio experience.

With the tools and skills they need to produce podcasts, journalists can extend the reach and deepen the impact of their reporting, grow loyal and engaged audiences, and spark home-grown businesses. As the number of talented podcasters on the continent increases, so will the quality, creativity, and popularity of available content – furthering the expansion of the podcast movement across Africa.

Working with a team of global experts, we host a range of specialized podcast training workshops and develop and distribute DIY training manuals and toolkits.

We also help individuals, organizations and publishers create or grow their podcasts. We can offer assistance to your team or develop your podcast fully in-house.
